小説家としてデビューしてから多くの作品を残し、代表作に『恋愛中毒』や『プラナリア』などがある。1999年に第20回吉川英治文学新人賞を受賞するなど、数々の受賞歴を持つ。2011年に長野県北佐久郡軽井沢町に移住してからも活動を続けていた。
