日本の漫画家、デザイナー。代表作として『Dr.スランプ』や『ドラゴンボール』があり、累計発行部数は3000万部以上に達した。日本の漫画が海外で「MANGA」と呼ばれ世界に広まるきっかけを作った先駆者でもある。
鳥山明は1978年に『週刊少年ジャンプ』52号で読み切り作品『ワンダーアイランド』でデビューし、集英社との専属契約を結んだ。代表作の『Dr.スランプ』と『ドラゴンボール』はテレビアニメ化され、長期にわたり放映された。
活動の合間にデザイナーとしても活動し、『ドラゴンクエストシリーズ』や『クロノ・トリガー』などのゲームのキャラクターデザインやプラモデルなどのデザインを手掛けた。2024年3月1日、急性硬膜下血腫で亡くなりました。
