井伏鱒二 / Masuji Ibuse

**"A novelist who delves deep into emotions"**
Masuji Ibuse was a Japanese novelist. His representative works include "Sansho-uo" (Salamander) and "Kanshu" (Drinking Song), and he received numerous accolades, including being designated a Person of Cultural Merit and a recipient of the Order of Culture.
Koihei Ibuse was born in Kamo Village, Anna District, Hiroshima Prefecture (present-day Fukuyama City) in 1898. After his father's death, he was raised by his grandfather. He enrolled in the French Literature Department of the Faculty of Letters at Waseda University, and visited figures such as Nanpachi Aoki and Aoharu Iwano, but took a leave of absence in his third year and subsequently dropped out.
In 1923, he joined the coterie magazine "Seiki" and published "Yuhei" (Imprisonment). Afterwards, he studied under Haruo Sato. In 1927, he published "Yugameru Zuan" (Distorted Design) and received his first manuscript fee for a novel. In 1940, "Sansho-uo" (Salamander) began serialization.
Ibuse continued to revise "Sansho-uo" for over 60 years. This work is still highly regarded today.
**Q: What was he known for?**
He had a great influence on Japanese literature.
**Q: What are his famous works?**
"Sansho-uo" (Salamander) is his representative work. The real reason for this title is not that he talks about being at the beach and particularly loving the ocean. However, it became the most well-known novel among people.
