Many of his works draw material from ancient China. *Ōke no Fūjitsu*, despite only having 500 copies printed, caught the eye of Ryotaro Shiba. *Tenkū no Fune* (Boat in the Sky) received high praise before being published by a small to medium-sized publisher, becoming his breakthrough work.
His awards include a Naoki Prize nomination, the 44th Minister of Education's Art Encouragement Award, the 52nd Kikuchi Kan Prize, the Medal with Purple Ribbon, the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette, and the 57th Mainichi Art Award.
