In addition to winning the 105th Naoki Prize for ``Fune in the Sky'' and the Minister of Education's Art Encouragement Award for ``Juumimi,'' he has received numerous other awards, including the Chunichi Cultural Award, the Ryotaro Shiba Award, and the Hiroshi Kikuchi Award. He is interested in Chinese history and was awarded the Chunichi Cultural Award for his work as a writer who broke new ground in the field of Chinese historical novels. He won the Mainichi Art Award for ``Liu Bang.''
