From 1951 to 1964, he was a professor at the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Tokyo, and later served as a professor at the Research Institute for Japanese Studies at Tohoku University and a professor at the Cultural Anthropology Course at the College of Liberal Arts, Saitama University.
