Honobu Yonezawa

**"Master of short story collections who is paving the way for the future of mystery"**
Japanese novelist. Born in Gifu Prefecture. He debuted by winning the Encouragement Award in the Young Mystery & Horror category at the 5th Kadokawa Campus Novel Awards for "Hyouka."
He reportedly applied because he sensed a future in the mystery genre and because the deadline for another award was extended. He decided on a career path in mystery after being influenced by Kaoru Kitamura's "Sora Tobu Uma" (The Flying Horse) and "Rokunomiya no Himegimi" (The Princess of the Sixth Palace) (Tokyo Sogensha).
After graduating from university, he continued writing while working as a bookseller and lived in Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture. His fame grew when "Hyouka" was adapted into an anime in 2012 and gained popularity.
Additionally, his short story collection "Mangan" and his full-length novel "Oh to Circus" (The King and the Circus) both ranked first in the domestic categories of "Kono Mystery ga Sugoi!" (This Mystery is Amazing!), "Shukan Bunshun Mystery Best 10," and "Mystery ga Yomitai!" (I Want to Read Mysteries!), achieving a triple crown in mystery rankings for two consecutive years.
In 2021, he won the 12th Yamada Futaro Award for "Kuroroujo" (Black Fortress) and achieved an unprecedented four-fold crown in mystery rankings, topping the domestic categories of "Mystery ga Yomitai!", "Shukan Bunshun Mystery Best 10," "Kono Mystery ga Sugoi!", and "Honkaku Mystery Best 10." It was also selected as number one in "Shukan Asahi"'s "2021 Best 3 Historical and Period Novels."
Furthermore, the same work won the 166th Naoki Sanjugo Award and the 22nd Honkaku Mystery Award in the novel category.
His motto is Albert Camus's "One must certainly acquire method when one has no character." He interprets this as "If you are not a genius, hone your skills. Write with skill and intellect."
Additionally, Naoki Prize-winning author Shusuke Michio has been a friend of his for 15 years.
