Kazuaki Takano is a Japanese novelist and screenwriter. Born in Tokyo. Dropped out of Los Angeles City College's film department. Member of the Japan Mystery Writers Association.
He was introduced to Kihachi Okamoto, the managing director of Toho Eizo, and became his pupil in 1985, taking charge of behind-the-scenes production and still camera work on film, television, and V-cinema shoots. He returned to Japan in 1991 and began working as a screenwriter.
The novel was published in 2001 as ``13 Steps'' and won the 47th Edogawa Ranpo Award. This work is a mystery about the death penalty and has sold over 400,000 copies.
