Japanese novelist. Born in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture. His real name is Yuji Motohata and he was born in 1951. After graduating from Seinan Gakuin University's Faculty of Letters with a major in French, he worked as a reporter for a local newspaper and in charge of radio news, before making his literary debut in 2005 when he won the History and Literature Award for Kenzan Banshu. In 2012, he won the Naoki Prize for ``Sawa no Ki'' and has continued to create historical novels from the perspective of losers and underdogs.
