Yoshihiko Sugimoto is a Japanese historian and professor emeritus at Kyoto University (specializing in 20th century studies). My major is French history. Born in Kyoto in 1955, graduated from Kyoto Municipal Shino High School in 1963. After that, he graduated from the Department of Western History, Faculty of Letters, Kyoto University, dropped out of the doctoral course, and became an assistant professor at Shizuoka University.From 1998, he served as an assistant professor and professor at the Faculty of Letters at Osaka University, and transferred to Kyoto University in 2002.
His books include ``Empire of Civilization: Jules Verne and the Culture of French Imperialism'' and ``The Legend of Napoleon and Paris: A Challenge to the History of Memory.'' He has co-authored the books ``Learning Modern and Contemporary Western History at University'' and ``Learning Modern French History.'' He also co-translated Geoffrey Ellis's ``The Empire of Napoleon.''
