**Introduction**
Taisuke Miyauchi is a Japanese sociologist and professor at Hokkaido University. Specializing in environmental sociology and regional sociology, he conducts research on environmental issues and development. After graduating from the Faculty of Letters at the University of Tokyo and withdrawing from the doctoral program, he began teaching at Fukui Prefectural University in 1994, and has been a professor at Hokkaido University since 2008.
