Author and English literature scholar. Yumiko Hirono, professor emeritus at Kyoto University, focuses her research on 19th century British novels. In 1996, he published his doctoral thesis, ``The Techniques of Nineteenth-Century British Novel'', which won the 4th Fukuhara Prize.
